How to get going

  • Select a co-hare; if you are new to trail setting get a veteran hasher to help or advise you
  • Choose your venue; preferably within 30-40 minutes of Hastings
  • If eating at a pub let them know what numbers to expect.
  • Buy flour or sawdust; also chalk is handy.
  • Check out your area at least twice:usually aim for a 6-10km run.
  • Adjust the trail for the walkers, using short cuts. If runners set the trail it helps if one goes with the walkers.
  • Aim to make the trail interesting, with lots of scope for falsies etc.
  • If you set the trail the day before, remember that rain and wind may demolish your trail!
  • Don't forget the Beer Stop.
  • Mark "On In" near the end of the trail, where the way back is obvious.
  • At the start, in the circle, explain your markings.

The Objective is---

To set a challenging run/walk (that should take around 75-90 minutes) and to keep the pack together.
The checks are to slow down the fasties.

The Hare bringing up the rear should mark all the checks through, as there may be latecomers; eg. Playaway.
